It’s widely broadcast that, among other systems, our healthcare system should undergo immense reform. The maternal mortality rate should be enough to give pause. Yet, there seems to be no shortage of brazen opinions cast onto the lives of strangers that they hold no bearing over. Pregnancy in and of itself is a potentially life-threatening process, with many known complications. On top of the health risk, there are the astronomical costs associated with not only birthing a child but raising one as well. If people truly agreed with the obviousness of “children are the future”, you’d think they’d maximize their ability to succeed.
The masses have always been nosey, but gossip was more of an inner circle conversation where biased opinions were shared safely. In these troubling times, people have mistaken their opinions as faultless and enforceable. As everyone lives very different lives, I wouldn’t suggest we all have the desire to jump off a bridge together. There are pros and cons to any situation, depending on your position. The right to make the best decision for yourself should not be compromised by the unqualified, the sanctimonious, or anyone else who doesn’t live your life.
There are many people touting adoption as the “Hail Mary” to pregnancy in any situation. Generally, these people seem to lack not only an understanding of the adoption system and its pitfalls, but also a disregard for the mental well-being of the parties involved. There are many vehemently in favor of adoption simply because they were adopted and are grateful for how their life turned out. The thing is, and this is an incredibly direct statement, you’re already here; it’s not about you. There are great adoption outcomes, and there are atrocious adoption and foster outcomes. Telling women they should put their mental and physical well-being on line for the purpose of giving their child away to potentially never knowing if the child is alright, is cruel and unusual punishment.
There is a staggering amount of unfit adults allowed to adopt or foster children in an under and over-regulated, understaffed, and unreformed system. Not to mention the assertion of opinion or rule based on religious beliefs without knowledge or care for the opposing party. Pressuring others into submission by way of religion is not a new tactic, but it is repulsive, and if they’re in a position of office, it violates their oath.
Many people have perceived notions about abortion, and many don’t relent when they’ve been proven wrong. Abortion is not synonymous with birth control; however, it is a viable option given someone’s circumstances. There are fewer cons associated with abortion than being made to carry and raise or give up, what at that point is an embryo. There are timelines for when abortion is available; late-term abortion is usually the result of serious illness such as cancer. However, there was recently a case where a young woman’s body was illegally donated to science upon passing in order to incubate what is considered an unvialble fetus, based on non medically advised legislation. Subjecting Adriana’s family to avoivable added grief and medical bills, as well as a NICU baby, appears vindictive and the law that allowed it to occur has recently been overturned.
The iniquity created by the heartbeat law was only possible because of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. As this overturning has left women subject to cruel and unusual punishment, as well as governmental religious rederict, the overturning of Roe v Wade is Unconstitutional and must be reinstated.
